My midterm section is coming up, and I thought I would be fine, since only one class actually HAS a midterm. To my current knowledge, anyway.
So instead I have one midterm, one paper due, one paper to start, a quiz, and a test next week. Lovely.
Last night was our film class' movie night, so we watched one called The Bad Sleep Well (Warui Yatsu Hodo Yoku Nemuru... or something) by Akira Kurosawa, who is apparently quite famous and made other movies I've never heard of before, and it's probably my favorite film of the class so far. And, after it was finished, the teacher informed us that it was loosely based on Hamlet. I am going to own this film review. Thank you, advanced composition class, at least you were good for something, even if UHH doesn't think so...
It brings back way too many memories of Freudian psychoanalysis and fighting over who got Laertes and who had to take Hamlet. Good times.
I've also noticed that the theme in my reviews is usually something about women. And my current sociology one is too (and surprisingly tough to find research for! I ended up reading about Maori representation in The Piano and have no idea how I got there....) so it seems to be a trend. It's a little creepy, actually. But my teacher likes them.
On an entirely different subject, I LOVE morphology in Linguistics. I think I will like phonology too. After that I'm not sure.
It's also really fun exchanging tongue-twisters from Japanese and English, especially when you get tongue-twisty in the language anyway...
It's been raining quite a bit, for once, and I made the startling discovery that there are quite a lot of gnats around when it rains. Which is a problem when your only transportation is a bike and you are vaguely allergic to said gnats. I am determined to make it to the library one of these days, but I keep giving up partway there.
I think I will drag myself away from homework and listening to Kagrra (It's Japanese practice! No, really!) to sleep. But they have free tea in the lounge in another half an hour. Hmm.
お休みなさい!
